Champagne Crystal and Satin Brass — The Kew Collection

The Kew Collection pairs champagne crystal glass with solid brass in a soft satin finish — five crystal knobs, four brass knobs and eleven backplates, all made to go together. Every knob fits every backplate, so you can put any knob on any plate and change the whole look of a door front.

Champagne glass is the colour of a dry sparkling wine held up to the light. The colour runs through the glass rather than sitting on the surface, so it deepens where the glass is thickest and lifts almost to clear at the edges. The brass is brushed rather than polished, so it holds its warmth beside the glass instead of competing with it.

How the pieces fit together

• Every backplate is 2 mm thick with a 4 mm centre hole.
• The knob's fixing screw passes through the door and the plate and into the knob — the plate simply sits between the two.
• With a plate fitted, the knob stands 2 mm further off the door.
• A backplate is also the neatest way to cover old screw holes or marks left by previous handles.
