Building a tree that looks considered
Choose two finishes and stay with them — glass and brass, or ceramic and wood. Any more and the tree starts to read as a jumble rather than a scheme.
Hang the largest baubles low and deep into the branches, where they catch light from behind and give the tree depth. Keep delicate painted pieces at eye level where they will actually be seen. And leave the tips for the lightest ornaments — a heavy bauble on a thin branch always ends up on the floor.
