An antique patina, so the knob arrives already dark and already at home — it skips the first few years rather than waiting for them. Underneath it is still bare brass, so it keeps going: a living finish that will continue to darken and settle for as long as you own it. On a ringed shape the effect is especially good: the rings stay brighter, the grooves go dark.
