Backflap Hinge, Solid Brass

A backflap hinge opens flat through 180 degrees — which is exactly what a drop-leaf table, a box lid or a fall-front bureau needs, and what a butt hinge cannot do. Surface mounted, with a broad plate on each leaf to spread the load across thin timber.

Solid brass screws are supplied — the same metal as the hinge, so the heads settle into the finish and age with it rather than standing apart.

Choose your finish

Polished Brass — polished to a mirror and left bare. A living finish: it will patina over time.

Aged Brass — an antique patina, so it arrives already dark. Still bare brass underneath, so it is a living finish: it will continue to darken and settle.

Satin Brass — brushed to a soft sheen and sealed under a clear lacquer. Lacquered: it will not change.

Will it change? Polished and Aged, yes — both are living finishes. Satin, no — the lacquer holds it still.

Care

Polished and Aged: a soft, dry cloth, and a metal polish only if you want to hold the brightness. Satin: a soft cloth, and never abrasive cleaners — they break the lacquer down.
